Where it fits

A laptop lid, a toolbox, a rear window corner or a gear case. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

Eight arrows from one solid center

Eight straight arrows burst out from a solid hub, one for every point of the compass, each shaft broad and each head a sharp triangle. Nothing in the art is a thin line. The gaps between the shafts are wedges of open space, so from across a parking lot the star reads as one bold shape, and up close you see the clean points of every head.

Guitar cases have a flat face that suits a symbol with eight points. Put it dead center and the arrows reach toward every edge. You will like it if you want a mark that needs no words to say what it is.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
