Where it fits

A laptop lid, a toolbox, a rear window corner or a gear case. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A pit bull looking straight at you

A pit bull faces forward, ears folded at the tips, head tilted to one side. The art is built from patches rather than lines: solid areas pick out the ears, cheeks, muzzle and chest, while the open spaces between them become the dark of the face. A thin outline runs around the ears and down the neck. From a distance you see the ears and the stare.

Owners of a dog with this face will know it at once. Put it on the lid of the laptop you carry everywhere, or in the corner of a hatchback window. Between the patches your glass or lid shows through, which gives the portrait its shading.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
