Where it fits

A rear window corner, a toolbox lid, a cooler side or a laptop lid. Any hard, smooth surface takes a decal: glass, paint, metal, hard plastic. Read how to apply a vinyl decal before it goes on.

How it goes on

  1. Wash the spot with soapy water, dry it, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Tape the decal across its middle, step back and check it sits level.
  3. Peel one half of the backing, press from the tape outward with a card, then do the other half.
  4. Peel the top sheet back on itself, slowly and close to the surface.

About this design

A Euro oval with family name

A Euro-style oval holds the word "POPS" in heavy sans-serif capitals. A thin outer ring frames a solid inner oval, and the letters are cut out of that solid, so whatever surface you apply it to shows through the word. Bold capitals inside a filled shape like this read from a long way off.

Put the oval on the liftgate beside the model badge, where travel ovals have long gone. If everyone in your family calls you Pops, it reads like a badge you earned, and it makes an easy gift from the kids.

Before it goes on glass

Keep any decal off the windshield. On the rear window, California, Texas and Florida tie a decal to outside mirrors on both sides, New York bars stickers its DMV commissioner has not authorized, and your own state may differ, so read its vehicle code.
